Black Spanish Radishes

Posted by Nika On September - 22 - 2011

I cant tell you how much we enjoyed growing these black spanish radishes! We bought them from the new-old Comstock Ferre, you can see their page here LINK

They were hardy, really tolerant of our fantastically variable weather this year (cold, wet, endless), only a few went to seed.

Here is a youngish one in the soil.

And then we has some really silly fun picking these godzilla radishes. We figure none of these photos of kids-with-gigantic-veggies will ever make the cut to be in a garden seed catalog!

I was considering growing these and did a Google Image search to see “real life” pictures, and the pictures of the kids with the radishes convinced me to order them! Thank you! :)

Did you grow yours in fall or spring (or both?)?

We live with a short growing season – I planted these as early as I could (direct sow) but I cant remember when that was. There is no unprotected growing during the winter here. They are delicious and grow like weeds.
